Tool charity moving to large new refurbishment centre in Rugby

The charity Tools with a Mission (TWAM) is running an online campaign to fund the equipping of their new refurbishment centre. They will be given access to the building on August 1st, 2022, and equip it throughout the month using the funds raised.

The new centre will serve as the refurbishment hub for tools donated in the Midlands and North of England and will enable TWAM to double the number of refurbished tools that they are able to send to Africa. TWAM usually sends 16 containers, filled with around 400,000 individual donated tools every year, but the new centre will double that to at least 800,000 tools.

Nigel Hyde, the Midlands Refurbishment Centre Manager, will be managing and overseeing the move to the new centre. Nigel says:

‘I am really excited about the new centre in Rugby, I believe that it is going to make a real impact for TWAM and for the tools we will send out. Also, I really believe that it will have a big impact in Rugby by making a small community of people building and rebuilding life skills where we all work as one team, learning new skills, bringing back self-esteem and confidence, friendship and self-worth to all who are involved.’

The centre will cost the charity £150,000 to fully equip. Information about the campaign and the centre can be found at twam.uk/rugby. People are invited to support in a variety of ways, including running fundraising events, online fundraisers, or making a donation.

TWAM has been sending refurbished donated tools to Africa since 1984. The tools are packed into trade kits and sent to local organisations that teach vulnerable members of society valuable skills such as carpentry, tailoring, and mechanics. These skills give them the power to generate their own income and start their own careers, ending the cycle of poverty and maintaining their independence.
