Shiply Has Saved Over 200 Million KG/CO2

Shiply, a UK based delivery marketplace, has hit a landmark milestone in its efforts to contribute to a more eco-friendly transport and logistics industry, saving over 200 Million KG/CO2 by enabling transport firms to keep their vehicles full of cargo.

Shiply are incredibly happy to announce that, with the help of their users, they have hit a landmark target of saving over 200 Million KG/CO2. This is the equivalent of 506,838,942 miles driven by a standard vehicle - enough to travel around the world 20,354 times, 25,000 homes’ energy use for a year, or 25 billion full smartphone charges.

A report from the Department for Transport statistics states that up to a third of lorries and HGVs travelling around the UK are empty at any one time, something that is an increasing cause for concern given the current HGV driver shortages the UK is facing. Shiply’s aim is to reduce the number of empty lorries travelling around the country by providing them with a platform where they can browse for jobs to fill their vehicles on return journeys or when they are part-full. This not only results in discounted rates for customers but reduces the number of unnecessary journeys made by vehicles on the roads by making the journeys they do make more efficient.

Shiply’s efforts have led to the company winning numerous Eco-Initiative awards throughout its lifetime, from the Shell Springboard Climate Change Innovation Prize to the Best Digital Climate Change Innovation Award at the Transport Awards. Managing Director Gavin Alexander stated that “we are incredibly pleased to have reached this milestone achievement and we hope that more of the transport and logistics industry can take steps to utilise backloads to ensure more efficiency and ecological sustainability in the industry, especially in the current climate of the driver shortage”.

Shiply, founded in 2008 is an online transport marketplace that matches people needing to move goods with transport companies going there anyway.
