Rosie from Ross-On-Wye joins water and period poverty alleviation efforts

Rosie Bornoff, a 17-year old teenager from Ross-On-Wye and an undergraduate at the University of Exeter, has volunteered with Hope Spring to help fight period poverty. The announcement was made at Hope Spring office in Hereford on Monday 20th of June, the same day Rosie started the volunteering work. She hopes to work with the charity, till she has to go back to her studies.

“I have previously volunteered with charities focused on humanitarian work, such as Oxfam, but joined the Hope Spring team to hopefully have more of a direct contribution in helping communities.” said Miss Bornoff.

Hope Spring relies on the goodwill of volunteers to get most of their work done. The water charity is always pleased to have the services of talented, experienced and enthusiastic volunteers like Rosie, according to a trustee of the charity, Temi Odurinde.

Welcoming the new volunteer, a long-term volunteer at Hope Spring who currently works closely with Rosie in fighting period poverty, Seun Olonade said “It’s very nice to have Rosie on board. I love working with like minded people. In Rosie, I see a congenial company, someone who’s eager to make a difference. Someone who’s willing to make our world a better place. I don’t think there’s any better human quality than this. There is nothing better than service to humanity.”

She added “I have been volunteering with Hope Spring for some years now. I enjoy my time working towards having our world rid of period poverty especially in West Africa. I believe Rosie will enjoy her time here too.” Hope Spring is a volunteer-led organisation. Most of their volunteers work in WASH projects the organisation is implementing while others work on fundraising, such as on their charity eCards fundraising platform called Hope Spring eCards.

Hope Spring works with communities in Africa to develop water wells and boreholes. Alleviating water poverty by extending their charity aid to communities in dire need of clean water and fighting period poverty through organising workshops to educate girls and women on proper menstruation hygiene.
