Geneva, Switzerland, 04 July 2022 – The 2022 Rolex Grand Prix of the CHIO Aachen was won by Gerrit Nieberg riding Ben 431. Second place went to Rolex Testimonee Scott Brash and third place to Nicola Philippaerts. The German produced a masterful display on the final day of the CHIO Aachen to capture the prestigious 5* Grand Prix, and in doing so, becomes the new Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping live contender.
Five combinations made it through to the jump-off, coming through the first two rounds on a zero score. Second to go, Rolex Testimonee Daniel Deusser was the first to achieve a much sought-after treble clear to set the pace for those who followed. As the 2021 champion, Deusser knows what it takes to win on the hallowed turf of Aachen Soers and rode a faultless round aboard Killer Queen VDM to put the pressure on the remaining competitors. Brash, another looking to join the distinguished list of two-time winners of this prestigious Grand Prix, used his experience and skill to take the tightest lines and shave over two seconds off Deusser’s time. However, it was Nieberg, as last to go, who outperformed his rivals with exceptionally tight turns to take the victory, with Brash and Deusser in second and fourth respectively.
The Rolex Grand Prix at the CHIO Aachen is the second of four equestrian Majors in 2022, which together form the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping, considered to be the sport’s most demanding challenge. All eyes will now look ahead to the next instalment at the CSIO Spruce Meadows 'Masters' Tournament in September.
Re-live the excitement, including impressive performances from the six Rolex Testimonees competing, reflecting Rolex’s commitment to supporting perpetual excellence within equestrianism. Discover more on the Rolex Newsroom.
