KITTEN SEASON! 18 hungry kittens at the Cotswolds Dogs & Cats home.

The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home currently have 18 kittens in their care and a mum-to-be, so the cattery is overflowing with hungry active fluff balls!

Kittens and cats need a lot of care and come at quite a cost to the centre which is based in Cambridge, Gloucestershire. Jane Ellis, charity spokesperson said 'We ensure all our cats and kittens are neutered, healthy, vaccinated, treated for fleas and wormed which can cost us in the region of £150-£200 each if they are healthy. Kittens will come back to us once they are old enough to be neutered.'

Not all the kittens are on food yet as they are too tiny and still having mums’ milk or being hand-reared but they are still getting through 2 boxes a day!!

Some residents need more care than others like little Humbug. Humbug arrived at the centre with his mum Freya who was just a week old at the time.  They were found as strays by an RSPCA inspector and were in a bad way. Freya did have three kittens in total, one sadly died and one had to be put to sleep as he was in a bad way. Little Humbug was a fighter. He was covered in fly eggs and was incredibly weak, but he had a fantastic Mum to support him.

Humbug’s back leg also isn’t formed properly. This is most likely due to the infestation of fly eggs when he was found.  Once he is strong enough they will need to amputate his back leg to ensure he has no other complications later in life under vet recommendation. For now they are keeping a close eye on him.

The charity is appealing for donations - If you can help by donating kitten food or making a small donation, every £1 donation will pay for two meals which really does add up.
