Hope Spring charity announced the completion of its clean water project in Government Day Junior and Secondary School (GDJSS), Ilorin, Nigeria.

The water project, which Hereford-based charity began early this year, will solve the problem of water scarcity experienced by the students and staff of the school. It will also serve as a reliable source of clean water for people of Agbabiaka area of Ilorin, the school’s host community.

The 125-metre deep borehole which is located within the school premises is a timely solution to the water scarcity challenges confronting the school and its hosting community. This was confirmed by the school principal, Mrs. Shuaib. She said “school compound comprises two schools both senior secondary school and junior secondary school and the two schools share things together. Water crisis has been a major challenge in our school. We normally go outside to fetch water from the well mostly”.

“It serves as a great relief to both students and teachers at this time and to the community because water is life. Almost two communities will benefit from it and some people around the school environment.” Added Mrs. Shuaib.

The GDJSS project is the first borehole project completed by Hope Spring in 2022, thanks in part to the donations made by generous supporters of Hope Spring charity ecards.

Hope Spring charity trustee, Temi Odunride, thanked everyone that contributed to the success of the project in a post shared by the charity on its twitter page.

“ I want to thank each and every one that made the GDJSS water project a success. Starting with our wonderful ecard senders who donated generously from sending Hope Spring ecards and special donors, our amazing volunteers for their prized contributions down to reliable borehole drilling contractors that delivered as promised. Everyone has been hugely instrumental to the success of this project and I hope together we can achieve greater success in transforming lives.” Said Mr Odunride.

Earlier this year, the charity completed a well water project in the Zariagi community, Kogi State, Nigeria. The Zariagi community clean water project has brought relief to hardship faced by women and children in the community who had to queue for several hours to fetch water to meet their household needs.
