AWARD-WINNING Hampshire based charity the Flat Spaces Foundation, dedicated to providing high quality, fully accessible holiday accommodation for the severely disabled and less abled traveller, have officially joined the Social Care in Action (SCiA) group of charitable social enterprises (September 2022).

Flat Spaces will continue to operate under their current name and current bookings will commence without any change. The details of their activities to date can be found on their website.

Dan Freshwater, CEO at SCiA explains: “We are all excited to welcome Flat Spaces to our Group. Their expertise in providing accessible holiday accommodation for and supporting people with disabilities to enjoy life to the fullest perfectly complements our existing services in care and wellbeing. Their values align with our own and we look forward to working with them even more closely in the future”.

Tom Yendell, Founder and Chairman of Flat Spaces who has over 30 years’ experience working with people with disabilities and is an internationally renowned mouth and foot painting artist says: “Flat Spaces are delighted to be joining the SCiA group. It is a great opportunity to be part of a wider group of charities and this will help us move forward with our plans to build additional Flat Spaces around the country to enable those with more complex physical needs, their families and carers, to enjoy the holidays that most of us can take for granted.

I founded Flat Spaces because I wanted to take away the fear factor of going on holiday, and after over five years of welcoming visitors who tell us how much a break at Flat Spaces means to them, I am really excited about the plans for the future now we are part of SCiA”.

Tom will continue as a trustee on the Flat Spaces Board and has joined the SCiA Group Board of Trustees.

Flat Spaces enable those with severe disabilities to take a holiday, in the full knowledge and confidence that their needs will be catered for. They have a spacious three-bedroom bungalow for hire in Hampshire that is fully equipped, in a beautiful location, and close to local attractions. Flat Spaces enables everyone to enjoy an accessible holiday, resulting in improved mental health and wellbeing for visitors and their families as a result of the break.

Chairman of SCiA Trustees’ Edward Hickman, who has been a trustee for eight years and Chair of the Trustees since March 2022, says: “Flat Spaces have a fantastic track record supporting people with disabilities and their carers to take a holiday that is accessible, safe in the knowledge that their needs will be catered for. We welcome them heartily to the SCiA group of charitable social enterprises and look forward to making our partnership a resounding success.”
