DREAM HORSE - A DREAM OPPORTUNITY FOR RACING

"This is a golden opportunity for syndicates to promote themselves."

DREAM HORSE is a rare animal. For starters it’s a film about horse racing which is unusual in itself.

A comedy drama, it’s also based on a true story about a real racehorse, Dream Alliance, who captured the public imagination and showed that the small owner can scale the dizzy heights and hit the big time.

The feel-good film tells the story of a Welsh shop worker and bar tender, Jan Vokes (Toni Colette) who gets a syndicate of 20 together, each putting in a tenner a week for two years, so they could breed a racehorse. Raised on a Welsh allotment, the moderately bred chestnut was trained by Philip Hobbs and spoiler alert….went on to win the Welsh Grand National.

Filmed in Gwent and Newbury racecourse, the cast includes many household names such as Damian Lewis, Siân Phillips, Owen Teale, Joanna Page and Peter Davison.

Simon Double, who runs Solario Racing and is an RSA (Racehorse Syndicates Association) committee member said:

“This is a golden opportunity for syndicates to promote themselves. The story is a rags to riches tale of a horse and his syndicate owners who defied the odds and shows that small owners can compete against the big battalions. The RSA as the main body representing syndicates in the UK believes this film could reach out to many people thinking of getting involved in a syndicate.

“It’s also a film about a small community facing hardship who rise above their difficulties to achieve a dream.

“We’ve all faced an exasperating year with Covid and hopefully the film will inspire us all to overcome adversity and live the dream. With racecourses opening up to Owners and spectators, the timing of this film could not be better.

“I’m a keen cinema goer and have a great independent cinema where I live in Berkhamsted called The Rex, so I’ll definitely be organising a trip out for my owners to see Dream Horse.”
