Crewe, Cheshire, UK April 12th 2022 – Cheshire-based domestic abuse charity My CWA (formerly Cheshire Without Abuse), has been awarded the ‘Survive and Thrive Award for Charities’ at the 2021/22 High Sheriff’s Awards for Enterprise – a new category for the awards, now in their 15th year.
Organised by the High Sheriff of Cheshire in partnership with the University of Chester - to celebrate the initiative, innovation and impact of the region’s enterprises and the people behind them – this year marked the awards’ first live ceremony since March 2019. Senior executives from the local business community joined civic leaders at Queen’s Park, home to the University of Chester’s Business School, on Friday 8th April to celebrate the best of Cheshire’s companies and organisations.
Receiving the award from My CWA, Deputy Chief Executive Beverley Wrighton said: “For over 40 years, My CWA has helped people across Cheshire to live free from the fear of domestic abuse. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers work tirelessly in often difficult circumstances and the pandemic presented us with exceptionally trying circumstances. However, our dedicated team remained creative and tenacious in ensuring our clients continued to have access to the support they needed and felt safe in a time where isolation has been an issue across our communities. We are honoured to have their efforts recognised by the prestigious High Sheriff of Cheshire’s Awards for Enterprise.”
Also accepting the award, Vicky Sail, Operations Manager at My CWA, commented, “Although Covid proved a challenging time for My CWA, this period also offered us opportunity to learn and embrace new ways of operating. We worked with our clients and local communities to establish which services and approaches worked best for them during the pandemic, and this feedback evolved our service delivery. We are extremely proud of our team – of their unwavering adaptability, commitment and passion– and we are thrilled their dedication has been acknowledged with this award win.”
My CWA supports anyone affected by domestic abuse. The charity runs counselling and recovery programmes for victims and perpetrators of domestic violence, and offers temporary crisis accommodation to people who need to leave their homes urgently. My CWA has a clear vision: a healthy community where adults and children can live free from the fear of domestic abuse.
