Feedback request on EU policy roadmap: "Legislation for plants produced by certain new genomic techniques"

Published By Europa [English], Mon, Sep 27, 2021 3:58 AM

The European Commission is currently consulting stakeholders on its inception impact assessment and policy roadmap for a future legislation for plants produced by certain new genomic techniques. The feedback period is open until 22 october 2021.

This initiative will propose a legal framework for plants obtained by targeted mutagenesis and cisgenesis and for their food and feed products. It is based on the findings of a Commission study on new genomic techniques.

The aim is to maintain a high level of protection for human and animal health and the environment, enable innovation in the agri-food system and contribute to the goals of the European Green Deal and the ‘Farm to Fork’ strategy.

This roadmap is open for feedback for 4 weeks. Feedback will be taken into account for further development and fine tuning of the initiative. The Commission will summarise the input received in a synopsis report explaining how the input will be taken on board and, if applicable, why certain suggestions can't be taken up. Feedback received will be published on the European Commission website and therefore must adhere to the feedback rules.
