European Guardianship network discusses EU Migration Pact

Published By Europa [English], Fri, Dec 4, 2020 8:26 AM

The European Guardianship Network held an online meeting on 27 November to discuss child-related aspects in the EU Migration Pact. The Network, a European Commission initiative, is currently formed by representatives from 19 Member States, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, as well as representatives from UNHCR, EASO and FRA.

The discussion focused on the role of guardians and child protection authorities during the screening procedure and the practical difficulties of conducting age assessments in the five days allocated for screening. A key point of discussion was also how to ensure that Member States relocate unaccompanied children when the solidarity mechanisms are activated and which incentives the Pact has included for this purpose.
